FAQ

Psychotherapy (also called counselling or talk therapy) is a therapy where a therapist and a client enter into a relationship with a specific goal to help the client with something that is causing him/her/them disruptions or distress in his/her/their life. While there are many forms or modalities of psychotherapy, the client is in the driver’s seat of the process.
Below you will find a more detailed description of psychotherapy from the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) (and you can follow this link to read it on the CRPO’s website):
Psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Registered Psychotherapists work with individuals, couples and families in individual and group settings. Psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning.

You do not need to bring anything - you can come as you are.
If you are bringing a child for individual therapy, a plan will be made with your therapist for drop-off and pick-up, as the office does not have a designated waiting room.

Some insurance plans do provide coverage for psychotherapy. Make sure to check that your plan provides coverage for Registered Psychotherapists (RPs), as not all plans provide this coverage.
Please note: while I do not provide direct billing, the receipt you receive will be sufficient if your plan covers psychotherapy services provided by an RP.

I believe every person is made for growth - including you. You have the innate capacity to heal, adapt, and flourish. I think the analogy of a tree provides a helpful picture of how I hope to support my clients.
We all start somewhere, whether that’s the family we’re born in or the culture or ethnicity we are received in - much like trees have roots. We all have inner strengths that hold us up - much like trees have trunks that support an incredible amount of weight. We all have things we need and gifts and capacities to give - much like trees need sunlight, water, and nutrients and seeds to share. We also face challenges that seem like they could cause us to collapse - much like trees face storms.
I use approaches that are meant to connect people to what can help them and to help them understand what has limited or restricted them. These include (but are not limited to) play therapy and attachment-focused interventions for children and forms of talk therapy for teens and adults.
